Ahead of his British title eliminator tonight, Jon-Lewis Dickinson spoke to British Boxing Blog. Having weighed in without any hassle, Dickinson admitted he has to work hard to stay in shape but looked good for it in his most recent outing. We were present at ringside for this bout (which he won comfortably on points against Jiri Svacina) where he was taken the distance but said he welcomed this after a yearlong absence.
“I got my 6 rounds in, in front of the lights, in front of the crowd. You can spar and spar but it was nice to get out in the public eye”.
On his absence from the ring, Dickinson seemed remarkably level headed.
“We were waiting on Matchroom for a date. I was meant to be October then got put back to November then it fell through and we ran out of options. They did offer me a fight on a show but working in between, it came too soon for me. I wasn’t willing to rush into a fight and wanted to be 100%.”
We then talked about going back down the British title route even though he holds a Lonsdale belt outright.
“I’m keeping my options open. We got offered this fight (against Tommy McCarthy, 8-0) on Sky against an unbeaten fighter, so there was no reason at all not to take it. I obviously have to beat McCarthy first but after that we will see what offers I get. Everyone wants to win a British belt and having 2 in the house would be lovely. I take every fight as it comes and we will see what’s out there.”
As North East natives, we would like to wish Jon-Lewis all the best for this evening and thank him for his time. Also thanks to Fighting Chance Promotions for putting us in touch.
