The weigh in for the main event of Fighting Chance Promotions’ Genesis is now done and dusted. Outright British Cruiserweight champion Jon-Lewis Dickinson weighed in at 14 stone 8 lbs ahead of his clash with Jiri Svacina. The man from Birtley is back on the hunt for titles and looked in fantastic shape today on the scales. His opponent is looking to end a run of 11 straight defeats including recent losses to the likes of Matty Askin and Enzo Maccarinelli. I don’t really fancy his chances. A focus JLD is a dangerous opponent for anyone in the Cruiserweight division.

Josh Leather, who also weighed in without issue, faces Pal Olah in a Super-Lightweight clash. Leather is a talented prospect and will look to progress to 9-0 as a pro since making his debut in 2013. He has previously mentioned his excitement at fighting back in the North East in which will be his fourth pro bout in the region and his second at Gateshead Leisure Centre.

All other fighters will weigh in tomorrow before the event. Fighting Chance should be commended for giving several North East boxers a chance to showcase their skills on Made TV. One such man is Jamie “Boom Boom” Jones who will make his professional debut on the card. We were fortunate enough to see him in sparring recently and his aggressive style is sure to please the crowd on Saturday.

Mark White and TK Jone were also present in the gym for that session and both look to extend their own unbeaten records in the Super-Feather and Heavyweight respectively. Both men could be ones to watch on the North East scene and with only 3 pro fights between them, the future is definitely bright.

Also on the bill is popular Super-Welterweight Basi Razaq. Basi is looking to bounce back from his first career defeat in November of last year. He looked out of sorts in losing to unheralded Lithuanian Evaldas Korsakas on Phil Jeffries’ show at Rainton Meadows. Ian Henry (1-0) will be looking to spoil another night for Razaq but that will be easier said than done. The Newcastle man possesses great speed and will be looking to impress in an important fight for him.

Unfortunately Sunderland Welterweight Glenn Foot will no longer be on the bill, which is a great shame as he brings tremendous support and always plays his part in action packed fights.

Irrespective of his absence though, this is a fantastic occasion for North East boxing and one I am very much looking forward to covering.
