Since turning professional in 2014, unbeaten middleweight Reece Cartwright has worked his way to a 10-0 perfect record. While not strictly a North East fighter, he is definitely one to watch as he progresses through the ranks and we are excited to him next year. As well as an obvious talent, he also has a great knowledge of the "noble art". Read on to find out more.
British Boxing Blog - How did you first get into boxing? What is your boxing background?
Reece Cartwright - I started when I was 8 because I was bugging my mum and dad to go wrestling so they dragged me to Rick Manners School of Boxing, he sawtalent in me straight away and told me I could be a pro. BBB - Who is your all time boxing hero?
RC - I'm a big fan of Thomas Hearns and Marvin Hagler. I like to think I have took some of Hearns' key necessities and made them my own. BBB - You fought recently, beating Mariusz Biskupski by a TKO in round 3. A good night's work?
RC - Can't put myself down too much, it was a good win although it was a bit sloppy, definitely not my best performance by a long shot! BBB - You've fought 5 times in 2015 and remain unbeaten. How would you sum up your progress this year?
RC - I have been pro 2 years now and had 5 fights a year. I have a great team who have set out a great plan for my career. I'm more then happy with my team and I am confident they can take me to the top of the ranks. BBB - You've fought on a couple of Josh Warrington undercards at the First Direct arena. How much do you enjoy the experience of fighting there?
RC - It's amazing! The atmosphere is crazy and the fans are by far the best fans any sportsman can wish for and me being a Leeds man I've also reeped all the benefits haha!
BBB - As a fellow Leeds lad, you must be proud of what Josh is doing for boxing in the city. How much inspiration does this give you for the future?
RC - Josh is a great lad and a great fighter. He is bringing out and opening people's eyes to all the other talent coming out of the city, Josh is doing fantastically and doing Leeds proud. BBB - Do you feel fighting experienced fighters like Chris Jenkinson and William Warburton at this stage in your career will stand you in good stead for the future?
RC - Yes I've fought lots of experienced fighters and former champions which helps and will prepare me for when I'm on the big stage with the big names. BBB - As a middleweight, will you be watching the Eubank Jr v O'Sullivan and Andy Lee v Billy Joe Saunders fights? Can we have your predictions for both?
RC - Yes I will be watching. I think Eubank will start quicker than he did against Saunders and come on top against O'sullivan and Billy Joe Saunders is going to shock a lot of people who think Andy Lee is going to hammer him! BBB - Which British boxer (apart from yourself) should we be keeping an eye out for in 2016?
RC - There are lots of great prospects I have met along my own journey such as Zee 'Magicman' Hussein and Zelfa 'Brown Flash' Barrett [we saw Barrett recently on the last Black Flash Promtions show in Bury where he stopped Ismail Anwar]. Definitely two to keep an eye on. BBB - And finally, you're unbeaten in 10 pro fights now, do you see 2016 as the year to really progress with your pro career? Where would you like to be with your career in 12 months time?
RC - In 12 months time I WILL be 15-0 minimum and well on my way up the ranks!
