Quigg vs Frampton closer than ever

It feels like that headline could have been written at any time during the last few years . Just as with Brook vs Khan, Froch vs Degale, Lee / Barker / Macklin / Murray and several other potentially great british world title fights, this genuine PPV match up seemed to have been further away than ever. Something has changed.

At long last, the wait could be over, Noises from both sides have recently painted a much more positive picutre to give long suffering boxing fans hope. Rumours have it that the Manchester Arena will be hosting arguably the biggest bout in the Super-Bantamweight division. February 2016 has been mooted with an official announcement due next week.

While the very public tit-for-tat style negotiating (from both sides) has infuriated many a fan, the fact that Eddie Hearn and Barry McGuigan have managed to put aside their personal differences has to be a huge positive for boxing going forwards. If Cyclone and Matchroom can co-promote an event, then surely we are likely to get more of the much demanded domestic dust-ups without boxing politics getting in the way. Fingers crossed!

I understand the need to marinate matchups and this one will undoubtedlybe far bigger than a previous British and Commonwealth unification would have been. Will there be greater interest among casual fans? Definitely. Are the boxers better than they were years ago? Again, given the level of competition they've both faced (see Martinez, Kiko) I'd say yes. Will both boxers make more money than they ever have previously? Of course. So with these points in mind, is it time to trust that the promoters know what they are doing and let them get on with it? I would argue that it is the fans' right (and almost duty) to put the pressure on promoters however we must remember that it is their job to get the best deals for their boxers.

This could well be the best case of 'Better late than never' ever.
